The Presence of What I Have Known, a poem of grief by Don Van Hoeven

It is the presence
of what I have known —
now gone —
like the book, “a year of magical thinking….”
Still, I hear and feel,
“I can’t believe it is real”
— “illumination” is reality of a kind —
as with the dawn,
I am moving
through the darkness.
