congress fiddles
while the earth burns.
follow the money
as the world turns.
it’s power for which
a politician yearns —
all vanity, vanity
as the earth burns.
uplifted noses
sniff only sauternes.
with blind eyes
they will not learn
all is soon lost,
because the earth burns.
