Present as Never Before*

The inscription on the mural
read, “”They have wanted to kill
them but they are more present
than before in the village,” in
reference to the murders of Padre
Rafael Palacios and Monseñor
Oscar Romero. They are more
present than before: does such
describe all the lynchings through
the centuries on American soil and
the present day lynchings by gun
on the mean streets of America?
If so, are all those who have died
alive as never before? If so, are
all those who died pequeños Cristos,
little Christs, leading us to
eternal justice, peace and love?
